Virtual study tour on "Electricity Storage Technologies"

Among the objectives of the Tunisian energy transition, the integration of 30% of renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030. Faced with the challenges of integrating renewable energy into the electricity grid, a range of storage technologies are key options

In this regard, a virtual trip on storage technologies will be organized from 26 to 28 October 2021 in Tunis. The event is addressed to actors and representatives of the Tunisian private and public sector operating in the RE sector wishing to become familiar with storage technologies.

During the first day of the trip, an introduction to storage projects developed in Germany, as well as a technical and economic comparison of different storage options will be presented. The participants will also be enlightened about the management of RE power plants with storage on the transmission grid. At the end of the first day, an overview of centralized battery storage technologies will be presented.

Decentralized storage will be the focus of the second day. An overview of developments in Tunisia and Germany as well as a presentation on battery storage technologies and their quality assurance will be given. In the afternoon, an open networking area will be organized during the B2B sessions.

The morning of the last day will focus on STEP technologies. Before the closing of the event, recently developed technologies, such as thermal storage, will also be on the program to give perspectives on the development of storage technologies in coming years.

This program is carried out within the framework of the Tunisian-German Energy Partnership, mandated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines (MIEM), in cooperation with the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG), the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME), the Tunisian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK-Tunis) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
